Brooks Seeks Improvement at Cornerback

Rams coach Rich Rich Brooks has a shopping list of improvements he wants to see Friday night, including better cornerback play.

Maurice Hurst's departure shouldn't be a signal for starters Todd Lyght and Anthony Parker to take it easy against in the exhibition finale against San Diego.

"I wasn't very pleased with either cornerback's play (last week) in Kansas City from the technique standpoint," Brooks said. "They continue to do some very, very good things. They have lapses where they could have do ne better.

"Todd got beat deep a couple plays, just a technique thing. It wasn't that he was soundly whipped by three or four years. He just needs to concentrate on his technique. Parker needs the same work. That's what happens when you cut down. They get a lot more of the work and they can focus on techniques."

After his injured ankle made no progress whatsoever Wednesday, defensive tackle D'Marco Farr wasn't his old Energizer Bunny self.

"It's as sore as it's been," he said. "I thought I'd better stay off it. My drum is still in the shop. My bunny still needs repairs."

Terrell Fletcher, who is from Hazelwood East High, has seen some adversity in San Diego. The Chargers running back had to cope with the loss of his friend, Rodney Culver, a Chargers fullback who perished in the ValueJet crash this summer in Florida.

"Rodney, he was my roommate when we traveled," Fletcher said. "So I got a chance to get to know Rodney in a little closer way than some of the other guys.

"Plus, we both shared a very common thing in that we were both Christian athletes. We were able to share a lot of different points we don't necessarily get to share with some other players.

"He was a tremendous young man. A tremendous family man. A great person. To lose a guy like him not only damages our team, it also hurts our society. He was such a great individual. …
