Body Found in Lake Is Illinois Lawmaker's

Family members identified Monday a body found in a northern Wisconsin lake as that of Illinois state Rep. Roger McAuliffe, who disappeared three days earlier.

Volunteer divers from a religious order pulled the body from Kentuck Lake near the Chicago Republican's vacation home in northern Wisconsin. Some of McAuliffe's belongings, including his police star, were found on the body, which relatives later identified, said Jack Dorgan, a friend and former aide.

Gov. Jim Edgar ordered flags flown at half-staff.

McAuliffe disappeared Friday evening, one day before his 58th birthday. He was last seen dropping a grandson and son-in-law off at a boat launch before heading off to cross the 957-acre lake to dock the boat. He never arrived, and his boat was later seen circling, empty, with his hat floating nearby, friends said.
