Precious Williams, a senior at Beaumont High School, is in this week's spotlight for her outstanding leadership in the school's junior Army ROTC program.

Precious says she has worked hard to earn her current rank as second battalion executive officer of her unit. She also has earned the American Defense Preparedness Award for exemplary achievement in academics and athletics. She has been a member of the junior ROTC program since she was a sophomore and says she has enjoyed the opportunity to talk to younger students about the discipline it has given her.

She said a one-week camp at Fort Leonard Wood "prepared my mind and body to be ready for anything." In addition to her leadership in junior ROTC, Precious is secretary of the student council, a varsity volleyball player and a member of the leadership club, color guard and Rifle and Drill Team. She also is a radio newscaster at Beaumont. Precious' 3.56 grade-point average, leadership skills and friendliness have recently earned her the title of Miss Beaumont. This past summer, Precious worked as a research assistant at Y98-FM as part of the St. Louis Internship Program. Precious, 17, and her parents, Precious D. and Raymond Williams, live in St. Louis. Here is what Precious says: After high school I plan to: go to college and further my education and get at least a master's degree in psychology. The next item of clothing I would like to buy is: a new pair of jeans. The best book I ever read was: "Winter Dreams" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I listen to: all the stations on the dial. I'm most proud of: the person I am today. The last time I cleaned up my room I found: a spelling certificate I earned in the first grade. My favorite subject in school is: world literature because I love English with a passion. If I could change one thing at school, I would: change the lunch. …
