Sundin's Two Goals Help Leafs End Slide

Mats Sundin scored two goals as the Maple Leafs defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-3 Tuesday night in Toronto. The Maple Leafs, after losing five in a row, scored the first two goals of the game for the first time this season.

Sundin opened the scoring on a pass from Sergei Berezin at 1 minute 36 seconds. Fredrik Modin initiated the scoring sequence with a crushing hit on Sharks defenseman Al Iafrate, and collected his first National Hockey League point on the play.

Oilers 5, Penguins 2: Ryan Smyth scored two goals to power Edmonton past struggling Pittsburgh. He tied the game 2-2 late in the second period when he batted the puck past fallen goaltender Ken Wregget. He added an insurance goal late in the third period to make it 4-2. The Penguins fell to 0-5 on the road and 2-6 overall. Flames 5, Avalanche 1: Theoren Fleury scored three goals, including one on a penalty shot, to lead Calgary to a victory at home.
