Carlyle Leads Parade of Teams in Holiday Events

Article excerpt

Area schools are participating in 11 Christmas girls basketball tournaments, ranging in location from Mascoutah (Ill.) High, to Visitation Academy near Clayton, to Jefferson City Helias at the state's capital.

Carlyle (9-0), top-ranked in the Post-Dispatch small-schools poll and the Illinois Class A state poll, is a contender at the Mascoutah Christmas Invitational, which includes four teams ranked in the Post-Dispatch top 10 small schools.

This tourney includes four teams ranked among the P-D top 20 small schools and two in the large-schools top 10. Winners last week were Rosary (No. 2 small), Lafayette, Perryville, Nerinx Hall (No. 10 large), Cor Jesu (No. 7 large), De Soto, Incarnate Word (No. 4 small) and Rosati-Kain (No. 15 small). Quarterfinal action begins at 3:30 p. …
