Winners of Arty Awards Picked for Exceptional Achievements

The St. Charles County Arts Council has selected the winners of the 1996 Arty Awards, which recognizes exceptional achievements of St. Charles County artists.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Marilyn Kruse for her work in musical performance on all levels from child to adult, teaching and developing musicians and musical organizations. She was a founder of the St. Charles County Arts Council.

Donald D. Shook was the runnerup for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Shook was involved in the founding and development of the fine and performing arts programs at St. Charles County Community College, where the fine arts building bears his name. Jan Groenemann received the Individual Accomplishment Award for her contributions to summer stock theater at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Center, in particular, for the key role she played in bringing the original musical, "Love at Any Age," to St. Charles County from San Diego, Calif. Oliver W. Cairns was the runnerup for the Individual Accomplishment Award. In September 1995, he exhibited 14 original paintings of the Goldenrod's history aboard the showboat. In October 1996, the Historical Society exhibited 14 of his paintings of Old St. Charles. Bethany Stolfus received the Young Artist Award for her musical contributions to the arts through her involvement in the music program of the St. …
