Flaunting its offensive versatility and defensive stability, Jefferson City trounced Francis Howell 41-15 and earned a berth in the Class 5A semifinals this weekend.

Jefferson City, making its 11th consecutive playoff appearance and working toward its fifth state title this decade, scored three times in the second quarter at Pete Adkins Stadium on Monday night.

Jays quarterback Kurt Propst, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior, totaled 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing. In the first quarter, Propst raced for touchdowns runs of 21 and 2 yards. He added touchdown passes of 20 and 44 yards in the second quarter, giving the Jays a 34-3 halftime lead. "They didn't do anything surprising," Francis Howell coach Tom Guenzler said. "We just couldn't stop what they were doing. We let their offense fall into a rhythm." Jefferson City (11-1) started racking up points on its first possession, when Propst turned a broken option into an 11-yard touchdown run. …
