VIOLENT DEATHS

Centreville: Police said that the death of a baby Thursday appeared to be a homicide. Police Chief Curtis McCall declined to identify the baby, its age or where the death occurred. "There are indications of foul play," he said. An autopsy was performed; results were unavailable. McCall said he expected to make an arrest in the case soon. St. Louis: Frederick Huff, 64, who was found unconscious after an apparent beating in his apartment in the 2900 block of California Avenue on Oct. 18, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis University Hospital. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Huff, who used a wheelchair, was struck in the head with an unknown object. ACCIDENTS St. Charles County: A man from Martinsburg, Mo., was killed while working at Trinity Metal Products Inc. in St. Charles County on Wednesday when a 5,000-pound steel pipe pinned him against a shed wall. The victim, Donald Peery, 30, was driving a forklift holding the pipe, which was 50 feet long, made of steel nearly a half-inch thick and with a diameter of 24 inches. He climbed off the forklift at 1:35 p.m. and was struck, according to Sgt. Craig McGuire of the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department. Peery died at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles. ARSONS St. Louis: Dorothy Wraggs, 52, who had been in critical condition since a fire was set in her home on Sept. 26, died Wednesday evening at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Two separate fires were set in the home, in the 3000 block of Cass Avenue, and Wraggs and her boyfriend woke up and got out safely. Wraggs went back inside and was overcome by smoke. Bombing and arson detectives were looking for a suspect, a 61-year-old relative of Wraggs' boyfriend who had been angry because he had been told to stay away. …
