Edison Brothers Stores Inc. is closing another batch of stores, including two in the St. Louis area. Going-out-of-business sales started Wednesday at some of the 135 locations being shuttered nationally.

A federal bankruptcy court in Wilmington, Del., approved Edison's plans for the stores. Most of them will close by the end of January, with the court requiring that all be gone by March 1.

The Repp Ltd. Big & Tall in Northwest Plaza and the Wild Pair in St. Louis Centre are on the list of closings. In other cities, Edison apparel chains like J. Riggings, Jeans West, Oaktree, Coda and 5-7-9 Shops will be shedding stores, as will footwear chains like Bakers/Leeds and Precis. The company has been in bankruptcy since Nov. 3, 1995. Major moves, lik e the closing of stores, have to be approved by the federal bankruptcy court in Wilmington, Del., where the case was filed. Precise numbers are hard to obtain, but Edison has already closed about 750 stores since fall 1995. …
