Park-and-Ride Lot for Metrolink Possible, Assistant City Manager Says

A park-and-ride lot to serve a MetroLink station in Clayton is a possibility, says Brent Hobgood, the assistant city manager.

But city officials won't explore the idea in detail until the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council decides where it wants to expand MetroLink and what stations would be in Clayton, Hobgood said. Gateway is not expected to act until at least June.

Consultants for the Cross-County Corridor transportation study have prepared four alternatives for bringing MetroLink to Clayton. Three of the options call for the line to enter Clayton from the east, with stations near the Ritz-Carlton hotel and the St. Louis County Government Center. In the fourth alternative, MetroLink would enter downtown Clayton from the south and west with only a stop at the government center. Finding a place for a park-and-ride lot in largely built-up downtown Clayton "is going to be a challenge," Hobgood said. The staff has kept aldermen up to date on planning for MetroLink, Hobgood said. …
