Mizzou Takes Unpleasant Trip Down Memory Lane in Defeat

After a couple weeks of progress, which included an upset of No. 12 Kansas, the University of Missouri women's basketball team slipped back on Tuesday night.

The Tigers reverted to their early-season form with a 71-54 loss to Iowa State on Tuesday at the Hearnes Center. Junior forward Janel Grimm shot over and around MU's loose post defense for 28 points en route to the first victory ever for the Cyclones (12-9, 5-6 in the Big 12) in Columbia.

MU (9-15, 2-8) helped Iowa State by shooting 30 percent from the field, including a slew of botched layups and only three of 12 3-point attempts. The Cylcones hit nine of 20 long-range shots. "We're back in the hole we started from," said Mizzou freshman Julie Helm, who scored a team-high 20 points. "We were in the process of climbing out of it. And, we just buried our heads, basically." Helm, who has won the past three Big 12 rookie of the week awards, scored only two points in the first half on one-of-seven shooting. …
