Memo to Miklasz: Drop Dead, You Tiger-Loving Bum

Article excerpt

Now, as many of you Mizzou fans know, I have irritated you many times with my insufferable paeans to Kansas basketball.

In this space, KU coach Roy Williams has often been portrayed as a combination of Norman Vincent Peale, Dean Smith and the archangel Gabriel.

You know that I have complained about Missouri fans booing Kansas guard Ryan Robertson, the polite young gentleman from St. Charles West High. You'll recall how I infuriated many Mizzou fans by playing down the Tigers' overtime win over Kansas at Hearnes Center earlier this season. I offered the opinion that Mizzou's victory was a fluke. After Kansas rocked Missouri in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, I wrote another tribute to St. Roy. Some of you have canceled the newspaper. One man told me to move to Kansas. Some of you have written nasty e-mail and letters. And I could understand your frustration. But by and large, most Missouri fans accepted KU's excellence and didn't browbeat me for stating the obvious. I turned on the computer to check the e-mail and came across a batch of vitriolic messages from those "classy" Kansas fans. The tables were turned. KU fans, who had been riding high all season, knew what Missouri fans felt like, coming up short. The Jayhawks faithful reacted hysterically. The epitome of sore losers. Missouri fans never carried on like this during the hard times, and Mizzou fans have endured more adversity than Jayhawks fans. I'll share some of the Kansas notes with you: "I have one word to describe you - idiot! Why would you use a commentary on Minnesota to shroud your true intentions of kicking Kansas while they're down? Kansas is a true beacon for college basketball. There is no person who better exemplifies the meritorious characteristics of a college coach than Roy Williams. The Kansas players are an embodiment of the ideal student athlete. And I have never encountered fans more gracious than those from Kansas. Taking an opportunity such as this to rip Kansas is truly disgraceful and a reflection of your shallow moral character." Chris D. and Melissa S. Response: Yep. No fans are more gracious than those from Kansas. "Now, this looks like the style of a bitter Missouri fan. …
