Council Seeks Bids for Work on Roof

City Hall in Overland needs a new roof, but officials are having trouble finding someone to do the work.

Beneath brown water spots on the ceiling tiles, the City Council rejected a bid of $22,025 by Arch Roofing of St. Louis.

"That's a lot of money for a roof," Mayor Frank Munsch said. In addition to placing advertisements in newspapers, Overland asked a dozen contractors for bids, says Charles Karam, commissioner of public works. Contractors either already are booked or are not interested in the project because the roof is a combination of flat and pitch styles, Karam says. Last week marked the second time this year that Overland had sought bids and the second time it had received only one bid. The first time, the bid was not opened. Officials hope the third attempt will bring more bidders. The council awarded bids last week for other contracts. They went to: P.H. Weis and Associates for engineering and design of the $1 million Lackland Road project. …
