Awards, Induction Dinner Planned for Hall of Fame

The St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 13th annual awards banquet March 22 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Paul.

Twelve men and women will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for their achievements in baseball, softball, bowling, dartball and horseshoes.

This year's inducteees include Richard Dwyer and Paul Wilmes in baseball, Jerry Kleeschulte, Jack Hammonds and Thomas Pryor in softball, Jack Ostmann and Ed Shrum in dartball, and Martha Terrill and Walter Stopke Sr. in bowling. John W. Conoyer, Paul Bierman and Victor W. Schlueter will be recognized for their contribution to all sports. Dwyer and Conoyer will be honored posthumously. Also to be honored that evening will be two St. Charles County athletes who participated in last summer's Olympic Games in Atlanta - St. Charles High graduate Connie Price and Francis Howell High graduate Jeff Hartwig. Anyone interested in umpiring slo-pitch softball this summer is asked to call St. Charles County USSSA Softball umpire-in-chief Paul Boschert at 724-2816 for more information. The Harvester Norseman Basketball Association will sponsor a youth basketball tournament Feb. 8-9 at Francis Howell High. The tournament, open to sixth- , seventh- and eighth-grade boys, will cost $85 per team, $50 for Norseman League members. Team trophies will be awarded for teams finishing first, second and third as well as for consolation champions. Individual awards will be given to all championship team members. The St. Charles County Youth Soccer Association has announced the following: The competitive division is now accepting team applications for the spring season to begin in March. Leagues are planned for Under-11 through Under-19 for boys and for Under-11 through Under-14 for girls. Applications are being accepted for recreational and non-competitve soccer players, ages 4-19 in both boys and girls division. League play will begin March 15, with most games played at the St. Charles Sports Complex on Mueller Road. …
