Lafayette Reinforces Ranking with Win vs. Borgia

It's been an exhilarating season for the Lafayette High basketball team, ranked seventh in the Post-Dispatch large-school poll.

If nothing else, the Lancers are proving their merit with the area's elite. Three weeks ago, Lafayette upset Vashon.

On Friday the Lancers resumed their roll, thumping small-school power St. Francis Borgia 72-48 in a nonconference game in Washington, Mo. The Lancers outscored Borgia 21-11 in the first quarter and led 38-21 at halftime. Terry Laney led the Lancers (14-3) with 17 points. Borgia, 13-4 and second in the Post-Dispatch small-school poll, was led by Adam Meyer's 13 points. Madison 56, Nashville 48: Madison's Trojans, third in the small-school poll, missed shot after shot in the first half and trailed 22-14 against the host Hornets in the second round of the 15th Nashville (Ill.) Invitational Tournament. Demoralized, Madison's players bowed their heads and trudged into the locker room at intermission with coach Al Collins closely behind. …
