School District to Hike Fees 4 Percent for Summer Preschool, Adventure Club

Fees for Rockwood School District's preschool and adventure club will rise about 4 percent this summer.

Administrators cited a projected increase in staff salaries, the cost of supplies and an effort to maintain a good ratio of staff members to students as the reasons for the increase. They said the fees will remain lower than current fees for similar programs in the area.

In 20 years, the programs have grown to serve about 500 children annually. The children are ages 3 and 4, or 5 if they have not started kindergarten. The preschool program is a half-day session offered at four elementary schools: Ballwin, Crestview, Eureka and Vandover. Adventure club is a full-day session offered at the four district high schools as well as Ballwin and Vandover. The new fees will be as follows: For the preschool, monthly fees will be $71, $96 and $125, for two, three and four days a week. For the adventure club, weekly fees will range from $44 to $105, for two to five days a week. …
