Pulpit Falls In Florida Derby

Captain Bodgit upset Pulpit Saturday in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale. Pulpit was the 2-5 favorite in the Kentucky Derby prep race and had won three starts after not having raced as a 2-year-old.

Captain Bodgit took the lead from Frisk Me Now just past the eighth pole, then outran Pulpit to the wire for a 2 1/2-length win. Frisk Me Now, the only non-Kentucky Derby nominee in the field of eight 3-year-olds, finished third, another neck back and 4 1/4 lengths ahead of Jack Flash. BOWLING Bohn Shades Williams In Vegas Parker Bohn III won his second straight title, beating Walter Ray Williams Jr. 206-204 at the PBA Showboat Invitational in Las Vegas. Going into the 10th frame, Williams needed a strike, nine pins and a spare to claim his 23rd career title. Williams opened with a strike, but his next shot ended up light and he knocked down only six pins. In the semifinal, Bohn was near-perfect in beating Steve Jaros 299-245. …
