Free Advice Lawyers Offer Tips on Specific Practical Topics

The rare opportunity to get some lawyers to talk business to you for free is offered this month in what is called the "People's Law School" of Madison County.

For the next four Wednesday evenings, lawyers will discuss specific legal issues that many people will find useful - from wills to employment discrimination to criminal courts to bankruptcy. Each session will last from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Belleville Area College campus in Granite City.

Admission is free, and registration can be arranged by calling (618) 931-0600. Dennis Orsey of Granite City has been organizing these sessions for about ten years under the sponsorship of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Madison County Bar Association. He said each class would be led by a lawyer with expertise in the subject being discussed, and would focus on the practical application of the laws in that area. The topics and lawyers at each class are: * April 9, "Wills, Living Trusts and Estate Planning" by Tom Burkart of Hamel, and "Substituted Decision Making for the Elderly" by William Sherwood of Alton. …
