Harry A. "Bud" Wellington Jr., a longtime printing company executive in St. Louis, died Sunday (April 20, 1997) at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Town and Country after a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Wellington, of Webster Groves, retired in 1991 as chairman of the board of the old Clark, Sprague & Wellington Printing Co. in west St. Louis County. He had served as chairman since 1982. The company later merged with another printing company.

From 1946 until 1982, Mr. Wellington was president of the old Wellington Printing Co. at 1602 Locust Street. His father started the business downtown in 1921, and Mr. Wellington joined after World War II.

During the war, he was a lieutenant commander in the Navy, flying fighter planes off aircraft carriers.

A native of St. Louis, Mr. Wellington served as president of the Westborough Country Club; president of the St. Louis Archdiocese's Serra Club; and president of the Junior Advertising Club. He was on the boards of the Printing Industries of St. …
