Grand Jury Investigates Former Kc Politician

A federal grand jury is looking into financial dealings of former Jackson County Legislature chairman James D. Tindall.

Questioning Wednesday by the grand jury covered not only Tindall's activities with the Legislature but also his role as minister of the Metropolitan Spiritual Church and as chairman of the political action group Freedom Inc., The Kansas City Star reported Thursday.

Tindall declined to comment. An indictment handed up in March accused Elbert Anderson, the former chairman of the Kansas City Port Authority, of bribing City Councilwoman D. Jeanne Robinson and Tindall, with Tindall getting $10,000. Robinson has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of mail fraud in a scheme to steal nearly $300,000 from two companies, and is cooperating with the investigation. Anderson has pleaded innocent. The indictment alleges that Anderson bribed Tindall to ensure continued county funding of Black Expo USA, a trade show that was an Anderson project. …
