Dear Dr. Fox: My kitten will not stop biting! If you pet him, he bites. If you pick him up, he bites. If you walk across the room, he'll sneak up behind you and bite your calves or ankles. He even bites company!

I have tried everything from lightly spanking him to sweet-talking him.

I can think of two reasons why he might be biting. First, he might be bored because he's home alone while my husband and I work. And second, the people we got him from allowed their 2-year-old to pick him up by the neck, choke him and throw him around. No wonder he's mean! We've already had him declawed and neutered, so putting him outside is out of the question. And we love him, so we don't want to give him away. I need help! Spanking is the worst thing you can do to stop a cat from biting. And certainly, the fact that he was abused as a kitten doesn't help the current situation. …
