One for the Road Officials Discover That State Deeded 11 Miles of Clayton Road to Municipality, in August

Town and Country officials apparently don't know it, but Clayton Road - the 11 miles of it in their municipality - belongs to them.

Town and Country's Board of Aldermen recently voted to hold public meetings to discuss whether they should or should not acquire the section of Clayton Road, a state road, that runs through Town and Country from Ballas Road on the east, to about Woods Mill Road on the west.

But the Missouri Department of Transportation says that it has deeded the road to Town and Country. That deed was signed by state officials July 11 and recorded Aug. 15 in the office of the St. Louis County Recorder of Deeds. "They asked for the road, and the commission has officially turned it over to them," said Linda Wilson, a spokeswoman in the department's St. Louis office. Mayor John Marx says that before he was elected mayor, in April, the Board of Aldermen had voted 7-0 to ask the state for ownership of an 11-mile section of Clayton Road. There were three reasons for this, he says: *To prevent or delay its widening. …
