Nobody has to tell the Washington University football team what today's game with Illinois Wesleyan means to the Bears.

Even though the playoffs are seven weeks away, beating a nationally ranked team like the Titans would put a feather in the Bears' helmets as they try to reach the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time.

Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Wesleyan Stadium. Including last season, Washington U. (3-0) carries a seven-game winning streak into the game. Wesleyan (1-0) is playing its home opener. Last season, the Titans advanced to the Division III quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Mount Union (Ohio) College. Wesleyan has a 15-game regular-season winning streak dating to 1995, and is ranked anywhere from fourth to eighth in three Division III polls; the Bears are ranked ninth to No. 19 in the polls.
