Lindenwood Eager for Re-Start after Mckendree Fiasco

Lindenwood University football coach Dan Kratzer and his staff have been working hard to forget last week's season-opening 33-0 loss at McKendree (Ill.) College.

And it seems to be working.

"Last week? A football game? I don't think I know anything about it," joked Kratzer, whose team will try to get back on track at 7 p.m. Saturday when it takes on visiting Culver-Stockton College in the Heart of America Athletic Conference opener for both clubs. "Last week was a disappointment for everyone involved, but the disappointment only lasts as long as you let it," Kratzer said. "That game is over now and it's time to move on. If we dwell too much on last week, it can affect this week, and we don't want that to happen. We need to learn from the mistakes we made against McKendree and we have to move on. We're still excited about the season and we're looking forward to a good year. "As far as we're concerned, the football season begins Saturday night." The Lions, who lost at Culver-Stockton in their first-ever HAAC game a year ago, will be facing a team that was 4-5 in league play and 5-5 overall a year ago. Lindenwood was 3-6 and 4-6 last year. In the preseason poll of HAAC football coaches, Lindenwood was voted sixth and Culver-Stockton seventh in the 10-team league. "This is a very important game for our football program," said Kratzer, who's in his third season at Lindenwood. "We know that we didn't play well last week and we know that we're a better football team than the one that showed up at McKendree. We've had some time to try to correct some of the mistakes we made last week and hopefully we can play a lot better this week. "The two programs are similar in a lot of ways and it should be a very good test for us." Saturday will mark the first game of the season for the Wildcats. …
