NBC anchor Tom Brokaw and five others will receive honors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

The Missouri Honor Medals for Distinguished Service in Journalism, awarded since 1930, recognize lifetime achievements in journalism. The medalists will receive their awards Friday.

Others to receive the awards are journalism teacher Shua Chang; Newsweek contributing editor Ellis Cose; free-lance photojournalist Catherine Leroy; Glamour magazine editor Ruth Whitney; and Missouri professor emeritus Paul Fisher. Brokaw joined "NBC Nightly News" in 1981. He has served as the network's White House correspondent and host of the "Today Show" and was the first anchor to interview former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. Chang was named chief executive officer of United Television Network Inc., the largest cable television network in Taiwan, in July. He had taught at Tamkang University and Chinese Culture University after working as a photographer at National Geographic and as executive professor of Taipei's "60 Minutes." Cose has been a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times, The Detroit Free Press and USA Today and was an editorial writer for the New York Daily News. …
