Lutheran Group Invites Public ; Women to Meet at Centre

More than 300 members of the Indiana District Lutheran Women's Missionary League will be in Evansville this weekend for the group's biennial convention, which opens today and runs through Sunday at The Centre. Events and services start with Servant Events, convention co-chairwoman Iris Wittman said, including completing quilts to send to hospitals and nursing homes, making and assembling birthday bags for children, participating in a blood drive and putting together hygiene kits for two other organizations.

The blood drive, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both today and Saturday, will be open to the public, she said.

Another public event, she said, will be a worship service set for 6 p.m. today.

"We have pastors from all over the area who will be taking part in the service," Wittman said. "For the service anybody can take part. It will be a communion service, and pastors from about 15 Lutheran congregations will participate in that service."

Those attending are encouraged to bring personal items for children, such as socks, underwear or diapers for distribution to local charities. …
