For the next three months or so, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will present its 12th-annual Next Wave Festival, featuring 66 performances of 13 cutting-edge theater, music, and dance events. The following are highlights from the first half of the season:

Opening this week is "Radical Graham," in which the Martha Graham Dance Company will present historically significant works, mostly from the legendary choreographer's early career.

The acclaimed Cheek by Jowl theater company from England will dramatize its version of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" from Oct. 4 to 9. This company, known for unconventional productions of classic theater, will revive the Shakespearean tradition by offering an all-male version.

Composer Michael Nyman will perform selections of his work Oct. 11, including his score for the film "The Piano."

The Japanese company Karas, led by choreographer Saburo Teshigawara, will perform "Noiject" from Oct. 12 to 16. Using "raw sound," created by "noise operators" as background, the piece will explore the "physics of dance" and incorporate techniques from Butoh, ballet, and modern dance. …
