Council Expected to Accept Quit Claim Deed for 10 Acres / Use Tax on Agenda

Article excerpt

A quit claim deed for 10 acres on the north side of the North Canadian River east of County Line Rd. will be accepted today by the Okla homa City Council.

The property is part of the link the city says it needs between the Overholser and State Park pearls in the riverfront String of Pearls project.

The land is being given to the city by Industrial Investments Co., of which Bill Swisher and George Swisher are general partners.

Market value of the land has been set at $87,500, based on a value per acre established by an appraisal of the adjoining 20 acres that was donated to the city by the Swisher family in 1984.

Before the council today will be final action on an ordinance that would authorize the collection of a "use tax" of two percent on all goods purchased outside of the city limits and brought into the city. This would apply to material stored or used, but not resold, and it would in effect be an extension of the city's present sales tax..

Also before the council today for final action will be an ordinance that would amend the city's zoning code to establish three new "overlay" alcohol consumption zoning districts. The new districts have been recommended by the planning commission, and would set up three classes of businesses dealing with the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city limits and establish annual fees for each.

A public hearing on a increase in fares and cuts in service for the city's Masstrans bus system has been set for Friday, May 17. There will be two sessions that day in the city council chamber, at noon and at 7 p.m.

All persons interested will be heard and written comments also may be sent to the Central Oklahoma Transportation & Parking Authority.

Trustees of the authority already have approved the changes, which must go to the city council for final approval. …
