Charter Application Filed for Shartel National Bank

An application for a charter to open a new bank on the south side of NW 50th St., between Shartel and Francis avenues, has been filed by a group with Clyde Ingle as agent, The Journal Record learned Thursday.

It would be called the Shartel National Bank with an initial capitalization of $3 million, said Ingle. The application has been filed with the Comptroller of the Currency.

Meanwhile, organizers are awaiting rezoning by the Oklahoma City Council on June 11 of the 0.8 acre site, said Kent Frates, one of the organizers.

The Oklahoma City Planning Commission has recommended rezoning of the from R-1 single family residential and R-4 multiple residential zoning to the O-2 office zoning classification.

Applying for the zoning is the Travco Building Co. A two-story office building, to contain 12,000 square feet, is being designed by RGDC Inc.

There are three houses now on the site,, which is directly south across NW 50th St. from the 50th and Shartel Shopping Center. …
