Baer Steps Down, Sells Stock to Shareholders / Will Pursue Other Interests

M. David Baer has retired from his position as president and chairman of the board of The Baer Co. and has sold all his stoc k to the remaining shareholders, M.D. (David) Baer III, son of M. David Baer, and Richard Dakin, it was announced Thursday.

Baer, who has been in the home building industry for over 25 years, began the Baer Co. in 1981. He said he had retired effective Sept. 5 to pursue other business interests.

"He has planned his retirement for about a year now," M.D. Baer III said. "He is wanting to do other things now and he would also like to have a little vacation time."

M.D. Baer, who was formerly a company vice president, is now president and chief executive officer. Dakin, who had also served as a vice president, is now chief operating officer for the Baer entities.

In order to meet the expanded requirements of the company with the change in management and the expanding operations in the southwest, Philip H. Gursky has been hired as vice president and general counsel.

According to M.D. Baer, Gursky will be responsible for land acquistion, lender coordination and negotiation of new partnerships.

Gursky had a legal practice in Albuquerque with the law firm of Johnson and Lanphere. His new office will be the Baer Co. headquarters at 124 E. Sheridan Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Although the company's management will change, Baer said the company's goals and plans for continued growth will remain unaltered.

Baer Co.'s Oklahoma City operations will remain under the supervision of Frank Longobardi. In addition, Gary Runner will still head the firm's Tulsa operations, where Baer Co. currently has three developments.

In addition, Baer's Albuquerque division - the company's first venture outside the state which began in 1984 - is being headed by Randy Drew. …
