Information Systems Association Holds Office Automation, Management Meeting

The Central Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of Information Systems Professionals is presenting a conference today at Rose State Colleges's Tom Steed Center featuring office automation and management techniques

Topics to be discussed are similarities and differences of local area networking and PC networking, by Will Polk, district systems sales manager for Xerox; image processing, by Lisa Byrnes, director of marketing programs for the Office Management Systems Division of Honeywell in Dallas; and body language, by Keith Thrasher, psychology instructor at Rose State College.

The half-day conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with a noon luncheon.

Southwestern Bell Media, Southwestern Bell Publications, will have a second enrollment on Nov. 4-9 for the Silver Pages, a directory of discounts for senior citizens.

A local force of account representatives is now contacting potential advertisers in Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Logan and Pottawatomie counties about the Central Oklahoma-area Silver Pages, which will be mailed in December to homes of those enrolled.

The discount directory, being developed in 100 cities across the country, will contain an information and referral section describing the services and programs provided to senior citizens by national, regional and local agencies on aging. Senior Citizens will use an identification card - called the Silver Savers' Passport - to show eligibility for discounts or special offers. The cards may be used nationwide.

Both the directory and identification card are free to senior citizens 60 and over.

Soundtrak, Waterbed Showroom, Tener's, Carpet World, Landsaws Furniture and Driver Music have joined together to hold a weekend sales event Nov. 15-17 at the international tradecenter on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.

The merchants will offer entertainment and contests along with a selection of merchandise ranging from home furnishings and accessories to audio-visual equipment and musical instruments.

The Oklahoma Plant Food Educational Society Inc. will hold its annual conference Nov. 13-15 at the Skirvin Plaza Hotel.

The conference will allow Oklahoma fertilizer dealers to discuss survival techniques in today's business climate. "How Can the Fertilizer Dealer Survive?" will be addressed by Luther Tweeten, regents professor for agricultural policy at Oklahoma State University.
