DETROIT (AP) - The Defense Department's audit agency has issued subpoenas seeking 36 internal reports from Ford Motor Co. and its aerospace subsidiary, which supplies tactical missiles and communications equipment to the military.

Phil Rogers, an audit agency official, said that the agency is not looking for anything in particular. He said the subpoenas were issued because Ford is among six or seven defense contractors that have consistently refused federal requests for internal reports in the past.

Congress granted the audit agency subpoena powers last month.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A jury has awarded $50 million in damages to 31 current and former residents of Sedalia who claimed they were injured by emissions from a chemical plant.

The circuit court jury decided to award each of the 31 plaintiffs $1.6 million. Several also got $110,000 for property damage.

The plant's operator, Alcolac Inc., produces chemicals used in shampoos, cleansers, plastics and paints. It has 15 days to move for a new trial.

DENVER (AP) - The machinists union says it might strike Frontier Airlines in February if the two sides cannot break a deadlock next month at talks in Washington.

Contract talks in Denver last week stalled because of the airline's insistence that its 675 members of the International Association of Machinists approve $11.3 million in wage and benefit concessions.

Four other union made similar give-backs last year, before the company was acquired by People Express, which has vigorously opposed unionism.

LOMBARD, Ill. (AP) - MidCon Corp. says it has sued a partnership attempting a hostile takeover of the company, alleging violations of federal securities laws.
