ST. LOUIS > Murder charge filed - Byron Pollard, 21, has been accused of a shooting June 27 that killed a man and wounded a woman. Pollard, of the 3700 block of Compton Avenue, was charged with first- degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Police said Ira Steele, 26, of the 3500 block of Miami Street, and a 20-year-old woman were in the 3800 block of Louisiana Avenue at 11:41 p.m. when someone approached and opened fire. Steele was hit multiple times in the face and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was shot three times in the back and taken to a hospital. Pollard's cash-only bail was set at $500,000.

ST. LOUIS > Man accused of fatal shooting - James Turner, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and armed criminal action in the killing of Conrad Adams, officials said Monday. Adams, 27, of the 1200 block of Sells Avenue, was shot in the chest about 10 p.m. June 12 in the 8900 block of Edna Street and died at the scene. Turner, of the 3500 block of Wright Avenue, was held in lieu of $500,000 cash-only bail, police said. Police say that Turner and Adams had been in a car together and that Adams was shot as he got out.

ST. LOUIS > Two charged with fraud - Gary Salant, 61, of St. Louis, and Douglas Dalton, 53, of Kirkwood, have been indicted on federal fraud charges that accuse them of misusing part of $1.6 million in loans, the U.S. attorney's office says. The pair were business partners who planned to develop a day care facility. Salant obtained a $1.395 million loan in 2008 to construct two buildings, prosecutors said. In 2009, Salant got $226,000 more for furniture and fixtures. Dalton created a fictitious company called Kemp Sales Group and submitted fake invoices for roughly $155,000 of the second loan, prosecutors said. …
