ST. LOUIS > Two killed within a block - Police were trying to determine whether two fatal shootings within a block of each other, about 12 hours apart, were connected. About 4 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony L. Henderson, 36, was in one car when he was hit by shots fired by someone in another, on Emily Street. Henderson stumbled into the 2000 block of East John Avenue and died. Police were looking for two men in a maroon 2005 or 2006 Chevrolet Impala. About 3:05 a.m. Thursday, Antwone Chatman, 33, was shot in the back he stood in a vacant lot in the same block of John, police said. He also died there. Investigators said they have no evidence linking the killings but were looking into the possibility.

ST. PETERS > Pair charged in jewelry robbery - A man and his girlfriend have been charged in connection with an armed robbery June 25 at Smith Jewelry and Coins, 4213 Old Highway 94. Kenneth Crocker, 38, was charged Thursday with first-degree robbery; Crystal Siefke, 29, was charged with receiving stolen property. Both live in the first block of Amberly Drive in St. Peters.

Officials said a search of the suspects' home found about 70 stolen rings and that Siefke admitted pawning some of the loot. Police are working with pawn shops to try to get it back.

FLORISSANT > Rider accused of taking money bag - Edward Mitchell, 24, was charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery after police say he robbed a Salvation Army worker of a deposit bag containing about $1,500. Police said the worker recognized Mitchell as someone who previously picked up a co-worker, so she agreed to give him a ride from the store she had just closed at 17 Paddock Hills Plaza at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. She told investigators she resisted when he reached for the bag and he punched her, took it and fled. Mitchell, of the 6000 block of Garfield Avenue in St. Louis, was held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
