ST. LOUIS - Police were called to a church Tuesday morning after a large crowd gathered on rumors that applications would be available for $500 food vouchers.

Howard Walker, an administrator at St. Louis Power House Church, and a representative for Advanced Marketing Promotions, said hundreds of people converged on the building, in the 4000 block of West Florissant Avenue, for most of the morning.

Two ambulances were called: one to treat a woman suffering effects of diabetes and another who fell. Police put crime-scene tape across the front door of the church to discourage people from trying to get in.

Several people said they had been waiting in line since Monday night for the doors to open.

Attendees were given applications for UPside Visa cards and were told they would receive a debit card in the mail that they must pay $1 a month to keep activated. The $500 food vouchers would arrive along with the cards, Walker claimed.

He said he could not explain why Advanced Marketing Promotions would give away thousands of $500 vouchers for free. …
