Pontoon Beach Standoff Ends with a Snooze; Armed Man Arrested after Camera on Police Robot Reveals That He Fell Asleep during Siege

PONTOON BEACH - A man who fired shots inside his parents' home near Pontoon Beach was captured asleep in his bed early Friday after a standoff with police that lasted for more than eight hours.

Brandon J. Caple, 28, was charged Friday with one count each of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated discharge and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He will be held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail once he's released from a hospital, where he was undergoing a mental evaluation Friday afternoon.

The home in the first block of Carla Drive is off Shirlwin Drive.

The standoff began at about 7 p.m. Thursday, when Caple got into a dispute with his mother and stepfather, authorities said. He fired shots inside the home but didn't injure anyone.

His mother and stepfather were able to get out of the home and notify police. The stepfather suffered a superficial injury when he fell trying to escape, police say.

One shot fired from inside the home came outside, but police said it may have been random and not directed at officers. …
