Lord & Taylor IT Center Set to Grow; 130 New Jobs Are Possible Here Via Hudsons Bay Action

Hudsons Bay Co., one of Canadas biggest retailers, plans to move most of its information technology operation from Toronto to downtown St. Louis.

The relocation could add about 130 jobs to the companys Lord & Taylor IT center at 500 North Broadway, officials said Thursday.

The amalgamation, as a Hudsons Bay spokeswoman called it, would occur in phases over 12 to 18 months. The center already has about 40 employees, said Robert Guller, whose BEB Management owns the 500 North Broadway building.

Guller said the company made the move because of cost savings and St. Louis strength as a center of meat and potatoes IT companies.

The whiz-bang guys at Stanford may invent the next social network, but St. Louis has many IT workers capable of delivering products to large, established companies, Guller added.

Guller said Hudsons Bays decision would be good for downtown.
