COOL COLLECTION - No place in the history of STL nightlife shines brighter than Gaslight Square, an entertainment district with a national rep in the 1960s. A bit of that magic is brought back by the Gaslight Gallery, 6010 Kingsbury Avenue, which features paintings by legendary saloon-keeper/entertainer Frank Moskus and photographs from barrier-breaking lenswoman Thelma Blumberg.

The gallery will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday through October. Several hip Square folks helped bring about the art nook: Bill Christman, owner of the next-door Joe's Cafe; Joe Moskus and Jan Mahannah, Moskus' son and wife, respectively; and Jack Parker, owner of O'Connell's Pub, which started in Gaslight Square.

Christman said that in its heydey, Gaslight Square "was mentioned in the same breath with the French Quarter, Greenwich Village and North Beach. It was special."

TONY: 'NO 10 FOR NO. 5' - Speaking on ESPN'S "First Take" earlier this week, former Redbird skipper Tony La Russa specifically said he thought the Cardinals were smart to let Albert Pujols walk away.

La Russa said: "If I'm an executive, whether it's Josh (Hamilton) or whether it was Albert last year, I don't know that I would risk more than five, six years on anybody. I don't think 10 years was a smart move for the Cardinals."

When asked if he specifically meant Pujols, TLR replied, "Even as great as, and I think Albert is perfect, I don't think I would ... ever endorse a contract of more than six years, tops."

In December, Pujols jilted the Cards by signing a 10-year, $254 million contract with the LA Angels.
