ST. LOUIS > Woman charged in stabbing death Chtonia Battle, 19, of the 1300 block of Belt Avenue, was charged Thursday with murder, robbery and two counts of armed criminal action in a fatal stabbing.

Battle is charged in the death of Benny Hill, 53, a roofer who was found at Page Boulevard and Semple Avenue about 9 p.m. Monday. Witnesses saw someone pull Hill from a white work van that then fled the area. Hill died at the scene. The van, with the words "Emergency Cleaning Services" on the side, belonged to a friend of Hill's and had apparently been stolen from the victim. It was found Tuesday morning in the 4300 block of Kossuth Avenue. Battle was ordered held on $100,000 bail.

ST. LOUIS > Ex-jailer sentenced for having sex with inmate A former St. Louis jailer was sentenced Thursday to 3 years in prison for having sex with a female inmate inside the Justice Center in 2009. Tony West, 36, of the 5300 block of St. Louis Avenue, was found guilty last month on a charge of sexual contact with a prisoner, a felony. In sentencing West, Circuit Court Judge John Garvey followed the recommendations of both the jury and prosecutors. West faced a maximum four-year sentence based on the charge. Garvey called the crime "disgusting" because it involved a person in power preying on the vulnerable. He told West he considered it rape. The inmate, 29, was jailed in St. Louis on a bad check charge on Jan. 9, 2009. She accused West of using his authority to pressure her into sex in a second-floor janitor's closet after he told her he could make her charges go away.

WARREN COUNTY > Two charged in crash involving unlicensed driver Two adults are facing felony charges after they allegedly let a 15- year-old girl drive a car that overturned on Interstate 70, injuring the girl and three children riding with her. The girl, Chassiddy A. Allen of St. Louis, had a learner's permit, but it was void because no parent, grandparent or guardian was in the car, police said. Charged Wednesday with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child are: Laquanna S. Johnson, 30, and Larry D. Shelton Jr. …
