Alexander title fight is postponed by injury

Devon Alexanders IBF welterweight title defense against Kell Brook, scheduled for Feb. 23 in Detroit, has been postponed because of a bicep injury suffered by Alexander in training. The fight will be rescheduled, but no new date has been set. (Tom Timmermann)

Davis named to World Cup roster Brad Davis (Chaminade, SLU) was among 24 players named to the U.S. roster for its World Cup qualifying match Wednesday in Honduras, the first game of the final round of qualifying.

Davis, who plays for the Houston Dynamo in MLS, has made six appearances for the national team over the years, most recently a match with Canada last week, but this is the first time hes been called in for a qualifier. This is my first qualifier, so Im excited about getting the experience from everything that comes from that, he told the Houston Chronicle. (Tom Timmermann)

Nadal still having knee issues Rafael Nadals ailing left knee may still bother him for a few more weeks, his coach said Monday in Chile.

Nadal practiced for 90 minutes with Nicolas Massu of Chile on Monday, his fourth straight day of training since arriving in the country for his first match in more than seven months.

Nadal opens today in the VTR Open, playing doubles with Argentinas Juan Monaco. On Wednesday, he plays singles in the second round.

Nadal has avoided surgery so far, getting therapy in hope of speeding the healing. But the slow recovery from the inflamed knee means Nadal has been trying to lower expectations as he uses three Latin American clay-court tournaments to prepare for a run at an eighth French Open title.

Nadal will be watched closely in doubles today, which is meant to give him extra playing time on top of his matches in singles.

His game is much better than when we got here, Toni Nadal said. It was better yesterday and even better today. …
