Merger Poses Triple Threat in Oklahoma Real Estate Industry

The Tulsa firm NAI Petrous anticipates a competitive edge from combining commercial real estate brokerage, property management and contractor capabilities under one roof.

The company resulted from the merger of NAI Commercial Properties, The Petrous Group and Rupe Building Co. It may be the first in Oklahoma to offer all three services in-house. Officials with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission or the Associated General Contractors of Oklahoma could not immediately identify others with that combination.

"It's not common in Oklahoma," said John Rupe Jr., co-principal of NAI Petrous with partner Mark Helmer. "There are other companies around the country that have the same entities all under one roof, but not in Oklahoma."

It's not a complete turnkey operation, with Rupe Building outsourcing its architectural and engineering needs. But Helmer said the merger promises lower costs and improved synergies for firms seeking to buy and develop real estate, or find and renovate new offices.

"We're not trying to be everything for everybody, but we want to have the services available if they need it," Rupe said.

They anticipate internal benefits as well. Rupe, who formed The Petrous Group property management and development company with Helmer in 2008, said adding the 13-member brokerage arm allows their companies to gain market information quicker and easier.
