A lot of teams in the South Region had designs on earning a No. 1 seed at various times. Michigan took a late tumble to No. 4 and Georgetowns short grip on a No. 1 was lost late. And even playing in the weak Southeastern Conference, Florida couldnt maintain a grasp.

So, of course, ever-reliable Kansas took advantage and moved into position by earning a share of another Big 12 crown before waltzing through the conference tournament.

When playing their best, there might not be a better top four seeds in the tournament than in the South. All won or were in the running for regular-season championships in BCS conferences.

And when you dig down to UCLA at No. 6 and North Carolina at No. 8, the South looks like arguably the deepest region with the chance to generate some upsets.
