O'FALLON, ILL. Accident or murder? * A woman whose "suspicious death" here is being investigated by the Major Case Squad may have fallen down stairs or been the victim of a crime, officials said Monday. Taffy R. Caradona-Stewart, 40, was found at the bottom of a staircase in her home in the 1300 block of Engle Court. Police would not describe her injuries but said she was not shot or stabbed. O'Fallon police Capt. John Wild said officers were called about 10:45 a.m. Saturday after a friend couldn't reach her. Caradona- Stewart had last spoken to the same friend by phone from home about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Wild said. Anyone with information about her death is asked to call police at 618-624-4545 or CrimeStoppers at 1- 866-371-8477.

BERKELEY Killing may be retribution * Jerrin Brown, 32, was charged Monday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in Sunday morning's killing here of Paul Moore, 20. St. Louis County police said they believe the motive was retribution for an unspecified crime for which Brown blamed Moore. Bail for Brown, of the 900 block of Sprinters Row Drive, near Florissant, was set at $250,000. Charges against a second suspect were taken under advisement. Moore, of the of the 6900 block of Lake Valley Drive, near Black Jack, was a rear seat passenger in a car that stopped in the 9300 block of Koenig Circle in Berkeley. Brown allegedly walked up and fired two shots. The driver sought help from police he saw about two blocks away at a QuikTrip gas station near Interstate 70 and Natural Bridge Road.

ELLISVILLE Woman, 86, bound and robbed * Police were seeking a man who posed as a UPS delivery driver to get into a home here Saturday, where he taped Bernice Cook, to a stove and robbed her. It happened about 3:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of Kensington Way Drive. …
