MICDS Tops Ursuline for Lacrosse Crown; MICDS 12, Ursuline 7; Polk Scores Four Goals to Help Rams Erase Sour Taste of Losing in Last Year's Championship

ST. CHARLES * MICDS junior lacrosse player Olivia Polk and her teammates have waited just about a year in anticipation of the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association championship game.

After falling to John Burroughs in the title game, Polk said she and her teammates made it their mission to not only return to the game, but to win it this time around.

Saturday, it was mission accomplished in MICDS' 12-7 win over Ursuline at Harlan C. Hunter Stadium on the campus of Lindenwood University.

"I think we just used our experience from last year and took our game to the next level," Polk said. "We thought back to what we could have done better in that last game and used it to move forward."

Ursuline jumped to the lead 1 minute, 12 seconds into the game when junior mid Emily Effer found the back of the MICDS goal.

Senior mid Claire Rush set up the first of two consecutive Lily Howlett goals to put MICDS in front and then, before the dust settled, the Rams had three from Polk and one from sophomore mid Emily Adamson to lead 6-1 with 17:02 left in the half.

Back stormed Ursuline, though, as junior mids Paige Salthouse and Sammy Warren, Effer and senior attack Grace Cash scored in succession to cut the lead to 6-5 with 6:46 left in the half. …
