BELLEVILLE > Explosives found in home * Police found homemade explosives in a residence northwest of downtown Belleville early Saturday while responding to a domestic disturbance.

Officers went to the home in the 300 block of North Fifth Street after interviewing a woman outside who said she had argued with her boyfriend and heard a loud bang as she was walking away. Police contacted the man, who surrendered and was held.

When officers checked inside for possible victims, they saw firearms, ammunition and "improvised explosive devices," according to a statement from the Belleville Police Department.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and called the Illinois Secretary of State bomb squad, which "properly disposed of the explosives," according to the statement. Police said they continued to investigate, and no charges had been filed as of late Saturday.

A 17-year-old girl was shot in the arm while talking to friends in the 3700 block of Keokuk Street in south St. Louis at 10:25 p.m., according to St. Louis police. The girl and a 20-year-old male companion suffered additional injuries as they fled the scene. …
