For 23 years, Post-Dispatch sports fans have enjoyed the insights, witticisms and commentary of columnist Bernie Miklasz, whose tireless work ethic is matched by his wide breadth of knowledge.

To use a sports clich, Miklasz now is poised to take his game to a new level. He is devoting his full energy to Post-Dispatch coverage across a range of formats: His longstanding column, the Bernie Bytes blog and now video and audio reports that will be posted on

On Monday, Miklasz will begin the daily "Breakfast With Bernie" videocast that will be posted Monday through Friday mornings as he weighs in on the latest sports developments from his home office. He says many other new ideas are under consideration, such as interviews with sports figures, coaches and Post-Dispatch sports beat writers and columnists.

Until last month, Miklasz had a long-running, popular sports radio talk show on WXOS (101.1 FM). Now, he will focus on his writing and extending the reach of the exceptional Post-Dispatch sports staff into new arenas.

In December, the Post-Dispatch launched video commentaries by columnist Bryan Burwell called "Upon Further Review" on More video and audio sports offerings will be added to supplement the existing stories, columns, blogs, chats and email newsletters that keep St. Louis fans current.

Miklasz defines his mission as "to provide as much content as I can in a variety of ways."

He will post more frequent and shorter updates on his Bernie Bytes blog such as an injury update, player trade, a controversial call or a reality check for dejected fans.

"I'll be at the ready all day to write," he said. He wants to incorporate what the Post-Dispatch beat writers and columnists are covering with his insights and interviewing skills.

"Breakfast with Bernie" will be an unscripted, somewhat unpredictable range of topics that champion timeliness and thoughtfulness over a polished studio production. Miklasz has done sports radio since the early 1980s, so his skills weaving together an informative and interesting commentary are well-honed. …
