BANKRUPT FUND FINALLY GETS A FIX

FAIR: This is gonna hurt a little. Normally in this space when we write about House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, we use descriptors such as "deceptive," "hyperbolic" and "just plain wrong." But on Thursday, Mr. Jones got one right. Here's what he said after the Missouri Legislature sent Gov. Jay Nixon Senate Bill 1, a fix to the broken Second Injury Fund that put the state in serious legal jeopardy because it was behind millions of dollars in payments due injured workers: "This will be one of the crowning successes of this legislative session," Mr. Jones said. He is . . . um . . . well . . . right.

Fixing the broken Second Injury Fund might be one of the only successes of the Legislature. We could, of course, point out that the Senate actually passed the bill (sponsored by Sen. Scott Rupp, R- Wentzville), back in February and ask Mr. Jones what took so long. But that would be nitpicking. Today, we agree. …
