ST. LOUIS > Man fatally shot outside house * Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man outside a home in the 2100 block of East Alice Avenue early Saturday.

Police said residents heard shots about 2:20 a.m., then went outside and found the man, 46, shot multiple times in the head and back. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released his name. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.

EAST ST. LOUIS > Father charged in beating of 5-month-old * The father of a 5-month-old girl has been charged with severely beating her. Latajhia M. Millender, 24, of East St. Louis, was charged Friday in St. Clair County Circuit Court with aggravated battery to a child.

Police were called to Cardinal Glennon Children'sMedical Center in St. Louis about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday. Hospital staff treating the girl said she had a cracked skull, broken ribs and a bulging left eye, said East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of McCasland Avenue in the John Deshields public housing complex. The girl was still in critical condition on Saturday, authorities said.

ST. LOUIS > 29-year sentence for fatal home invasion * A St. Louis man was sentenced to 29 years in prison for a 2011 home invasion in which an elderly homeowner was beaten to death and a health care aide was sodomized. Travon Jones, 20, was sentenced Friday in St. Louis Circuit Court. In June, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, forcible sodomy, first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, first-degree tampering and resisting arrest.

In November 2011, Jones burst into a brick bungalow in the 4400 block of Catherine Place where Arteria King, 92, lived with his wife, Sarah King, 90. Jones repeatedly hit Arteria King, and he died of his injuries a week later. Sarah King, under hospice care in her home, was not injured but died of natural causes a week later, on the same day as her husband. …
