SLU showdown in U.S.-Bosnia soccer match

Former St. Louis U. soccer player Tim Ream, now with Bolton Wanderers in England, was named to the U.S. roster for a friendly match with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, which sets up a rare meeting with another Billiken.

Vedad Ibisevic, who went to Roosevelt High and then played one year at SLU before going pro with French club Paris St.-Germain, was named to the Bosnian roster several days earlier. Whether they actually go against each other on the field is another matter.

While Ibisevic, who now plays in Germany for Stuttgart, has become a regular for Bosnia, this is the first time that Ream, who went to St. Dominic High, has been called in by coach Jurgen Klinsmann since October 2011. The game will air on ESPN2 on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (Tom Timmermann)

Klitschko bout set for Oct. 5 * The long-anticipated bout between WBA heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and Russia's Alexander Povetkin will be held in Moscow on Oct. 5, the boxers confirmed Monday.

The WBA heavyweight belt became vacant when Klitschko was elevated to "super champion" status in 2011 after beating David Haye. Povetkin became the mandatory challenger for Klitschko when he beat American Hasim Rahman last September.

Earlier this year, the 37-year-old Klitschko improved to 60-3 when he beat Francesco Pianeta with his 52nd knockout, while the undefeated Povetkin, 33, improved to 26-0 with his 18th knockout, stopping Polish challenger Andrzej Wawrzyk for his fourth successful defense of the "regular" title.

The bout will be held at Moscow's indoor Olympic stadium. (AP)
