Article excerpt

Chaminade (3-1, No. 6 STLhighschoolsports.com large-schools rankings) had spent the week of the CBC Tournament playing in the Great Midwest Classic in Indianapolis since 2001.

But this year, coach Mike Gauvain switched it up. South Kent (Conn.) invited Chaminade out east for a match after playing last year in the Gateway City Soccer Classic. With the support of the parents and the school, the Red Devils accepted.

Chaminade leaves after school today for a flight to New York. The players and coaches will pile into vans and make a two-hour road trip for their match against South Kent on Thursday.

The Red Devils also are scheduled for a game Saturday against New England Class A champion Berkshire School.

With games scheduled Thursday and Saturday, Friday turned out to be the perfect day for some northeastern college soccer. Assistant coach Tim Sartori will travel to Rutgers to watch former Saint Louis University coach Dan Donigan's Scarlett Knights.

Gauvain will take a group to Storrs to watch the Connecticut men's team.

"Friday is going to be a fun day," Gauvain said. "It's going to be a nice experience for everybody."
